Once he seized the lead of the Drivers' Championship, Gabriel Bortoleto never looked back. The Brazilian was a force to be reckoned with from the off, winning the first two Feature Races of the year in Sakhir and Melbourne respectively.
From there, he kept his high performance levels throughout the year and the lead of the Championship along with it. He finished inside the points in all but two of the remaining races in 2023 to end up as Drivers' Champion comfortably.
His stint of 13 consecutive points scoring finishes propelled him into a sizeable lead, such was his advantage he was crowned Champion following Monza Qualifying.
His exploits earned him a spot on the McLaren Driver Development Programme and promotion up to Formula 2 with Invicta Racing for 2024, where he is currently leading the Drivers’ Championship with two rounds to go.
Before those rounds kicked off, Bortoleto’s ascent through the ranks continued as Kick Sauber announced that he would graduate to Formula 1 with the team on a multi-year contract starting in 2025.
