MP Motorsport rookie Tim Tramnitz is the latest driver on the 2024 FIA Formula 3 grid to give us the lowdown on their hometown.

The Red Bull Junior Team driver talks food hotspots, places to visit and of course, where we can go racing nearby.

WHERE DO YOU GROW UP?

“I grew up in Hamburg. Not right in the city, a bit outside in Bergedorf, a very small place. I don’t know how many people, but I’d guess over 20,000.”

WHAT LANGUAGES ARE SPOKEN THERE

“Only German. The older people there speak German slang, which is a lot more difficult to understand. My grandma sometimes speaks a little bit like this but if they speak it properly, I can’t understand it.”

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT TO SOMEONE?

“I would say where I live is more in the countryside, outside of the city of Hamburg. It’s quite calm but only 20 minutes to the city and the city is really beautiful. There are some really nice places, especially along the water and the old harbour, some nice restaurants. I’d say there are some nice places to visit for tourists. It’s a really cool city, there are a lot of museums too, we have a car museum with a few prototypes which is pretty interesting. But the main part of the city is cool.”

WHAT’S THE WEATHER LIKE THERE?

“It depends. It’s cold in the winter and in the summer it’s quite hot actually. Towards winter though the weather does get quite rainy. At the moment there are some good days but it’s close to the coast so it can rain sometimes.”

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE SOMEONE AROUND, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

“I’d probably show them around the city and then I’d go towards the Reeperbahn I would say. It’s a famous street in Hamburg with some entertainment places to go. I would say, being a racing driver, to go to the museum and see all of the prototype cars. There’s a miniature place there too, that’s really cool. Also to go see the streets around the lake.”

WHERE WOULD YOU GO FOR FOOD?

“That’s a good question. There’s a really good restaurant where you can get really good schnitzel. Or I know a very good kebab place close to where I live. There’s a few good Italian restaurants, I really like pizza, but I can’t eat it all the time of course.

WHERE CAN YOU GO KARTING?

“Close to Hamburg we actually have the third-ever built raceway in Germany where Michael Schumacher raced in Formula Ford, but it’s closed now and you can’t really go racing there, but it would be cool to drive in a kart. I would go to Embsen, around 30 minutes away but I started karting there and I think, especially with a rental kart, this track is a lot of fun.”
