After the street circuit action that kicked off the season in Melbourne and Monte Carlo, FIA Formula 3 is back on familiar ground in Barcelona, with a track everyone knows well.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya hosts Round 3 of the 2026 campaign, and there are plenty of talking points ahead of this weekend’s action.

Here’s a few points to pay close attention to in Barcelona.

FINE MARGINS

With the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya hosting pre-season testing, drivers and teams already have a wealth of data from 2026 to take into this weekend.

That’s not counting the historical data they all will be combing through ahead of arriving in Spain, meaning that everyone knows the place like the back of their hand.

While it’s beneficial for drivers and teams to carry that into this weekend, it also makes their lives harder due to the margins or lack thereof we can expect in Qualifying especially.

Drivers have already turned their attentions to the Friday afternoon session that will set the grid and know even hundredths or even thousandths of a second could make all the difference. In 2022 around Barcelona, the gap between the top four qualifiers stood at just 0.056s.

Already this season we have seen Qualifying decided by knife-edge margins, with Théophile Nael winning Melbourne pole by 0.021s, while Freddie Slater was just 0.082s off top spot himself.

Make sure you’re tuned in at 15:00 local time on Friday afternoon to catch the session live, as it’s likely one you will not want to miss!

CONSISTENCY IS KING

We’ve seen it over the past several seasons that it’s consistency that wins out over the course of an F3 campaign.

Leonardo Fornaroli built his title-winning season by constantly being in and around the podium fight, and while he didn’t take victory en route to the title, was ever-present at the sharp end of the order.

So far this year, it’s something Bruno del Pino has been emulating, as he remains the only driver on the 2026 grid to have scored in every race so far this season.

In fact, the Spaniard has not finished outside of the top six in all four races so far. Those results have put him in second behind Ugo Ugochukwu in the Drivers’ Championship heading into Round 3.

With Van Amersfoort Racing firing on all cylinders and with it being del Pino’s home event, could he carry that streak on and even take a victory on home soil?

The Dutch outfit claimed a memorable 1-2 finish in Spain last season in the Sprint Race and are riding a wave of momentum into Round 3. Keep an eye on del Pino.

CAMPOS COUNTRY

While del Pino is certainly a driver in form going into this weekend, there’s no questioning which team is the favourite around the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Since the inaugural F3 season back in 2019, Campos has achieved six podium results at their home event, including three race victories.

As the current leaders in the Teams’ Standings, the Spanish outfit are the team in form already, and going to a circuit they have always thrived around will only fuel their confidence.

Théophile Nael has had an exclusive hold on pole position so far in 2026, taking top spot in Qualifying in both Melbourne and Monte Carlo.

Teammate Ugo Ugochukwu has run the Frenchman close both times and wound up starting in the top four.

Meanwhile, their rookie teammate Ernesto Rivera was in at the deep end in Monte Carlo as he made his Championship debut after injury kept him out of the car in Melbourne.

The Mexican took things in his stride, qualifying fifth and but for contact that was not his fault in the Sprint, would have walked away from the Principality with two scoring results.

All three can claim they will be in the fight for pole this weekend.
