Following the conclusion of the FIA Formula 3 Sprint Race in Monte Carlo, several drivers have been handed penalties.
Firstly, Matteo De Palo has received a 10-second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.
Car 6 was alleged to have benefitted from leaving the track at Turn 1 at the start of the race, overtaking Car 27 of Yevan David in the process. Following a post-race review of positioning system data along with video evidence, the Stewards determined that Car 6 left the track and rejoined ahead of Car 27 and failed to hand the position back, breaching Article 27.3 of the FIA Formula 3 Sporting Regulations.
As such, the Stewards awarded a 10-second time penalty for the TRIDENT driver. With the penalty applied, De Palo falls to P14.
Secondly, Enzo Deligny has also been awarded a 10-second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.
Car 15 was alleged to have left the track at Turn 1, rejoining ahead of Car 27 of David as well as Car 22 of Jose Garfias.
Following the race, the Stewards reviewed positioning and video data and determined that Car 15 left the track and rejoined ahead of Cars 27 and 22 and failed to hand the positions back, breaching Article 27.3 of the FIA Formula 3 Sporting Regulations.
They awarded Deligny a 10-second time penalty as a result.
Separately, Deligny has also been handed a post-race Stop & Go penalty for a breach of Article 43.5 of the FIA Formula 3 Sporting Regulations.
The VAR driver had one member of the team touching Car 15 in the fast lane after the 15-second signal had been shown. Deligny did not restart the race from the pit lane.
With the French driver unable to serve the penalty in race, it is converted into a 30-second time penalty in accordance with 39.3 of the FIA Formula 3 Sporting Regulations.
With the sanction added to his race time, Deligny now finishes P23.
Next, Nicola Lacorte has been awarded a 10-second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.
Car 29 was alleged to have benefitted from leaving the track at Turn 1 at the start of the race, overtaking Car 30 of Nandhavud Bhirombhakdi in the process.
Following a post-race review of positioning system data along with video evidence, the Stewards determined that Car 29 left the track and rejoined ahead of Car 30 and failed to hand the position back, breaching Article 27.3 of the FIA Formula 3 Sporting Regulations.
Accordingly, the Stewards awarded a 10-second time penalty for the DAMS driver.
Also, the Italian has been handed a separate Stop & Go penalty for a Breach of Article 43.5 of the FIA Formula 3 Sporting Regulations.
The DAMS driver had one team member touching the car following the 15-second signal being shown and did not restart the race from the pit lane.
As a result of being unable to serve the Stop & Go in-race, it is converted into a 30-second penalty which is added to his elapsed race time.
With the penalty applied, Lacorte now finishes in 22nd position.
Next, Brad Benavides has been handed a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision.
The AIX Racing driver was alleged to have caused contact between Cars 26 (Benavides), Car 30 of Bhirombhakdi and Car 19 belonging to Christian Ho at Turn 6 on the opening lap.
After the race, the Stewards reviewed video evidence and determined that Car 26 initiated the contact that led to the retirement of himself and Ho, and as such, was wholly responsible for the incident.
They applied the standard 10-second time penalty to Benavides, however, with the American driver failing to finish the Sprint Race, the time penalty is converted into a drop of five grid positions.
He will serve the penalty at the next Feature Race in which he competes.
Furthermore, Tuukka Taponen has been handed a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision.
On the opening lap, the MP Motorsport driver collided with Car 3 of Ernesto Rivera at Turn 6. Following the race, the Stewards examined video evidence and determined Car 8 of Taponen had no overlap with Car 3 at corner turn in, and had therefore not won the corner, leaving Taponen wholly responsible for the collision.
They applied the standard 10-second time penalty and with the MP driver failing to finish the Sprint Race, it is converted into a drop of five grid positions. He will serve the penalty at the next Feature Race in which he competes.
Additionally, AIX Racing’s Fernando Barrichello has been handed a ten-second Stop & Go penalty.
Car 28 had a team member in the fast lane and with team equipment still connected to the car after the 15-second signal had been shown, and did not restart from the pitlane, constituting a breach of Article 43.5 of the FIA Formula 3 Sporting Regulations.
With Barrichello unable to serve the penalty in-race, the Stop & Go is converted into a 30-second time penalty, and with that applied to his race time, the Brazilian is now classified P20.
Next, Woohyun Shin has been handed a Stop & Go penalty for a Breach of Article 43.5 of the FIA Formula 3 Sporting Regulations.
The Hitech driver had one team member touching the car following the 15-second signal being shown. Shin did not restart the race from the pit lane.
As a result of Shin being unable to serve the Stop & Go in-race, it is converted into a 30-second penalty which is added to his elapsed race time.
With his penalty applied, Shin is now classified P18 in the order.
Moreover, Yevan David has been awarded a Stop & Go penalty after having two team members touching Car 27 following the 15-second signal had been shown, and failing to restart the race from the pit lane.
In accordance with the Sporting Regulations, with David unable to serve the penalty in race, it has been converted into a 30-second penalty which is added to his race time.
With those 30 seconds applied, the AIX driver now finishes P21.
Finally, Louis Sharp has been handed a Stop & Go penalty for a Breach of Article 43.5 of the FIA Formula 3 Sporting Regulations.
The PREMA Racing driver had one team member touching the car following the 15-second signal being shown and did not restart the race from the pit lane.
With Sharp unable to serve the Stop & Go in-race, it is converted into a 30-second penalty which is added to his elapsed race time.
With the penalty applied, the PREMA driver is now classified P17.
