Charouz Racing System have announced that Russian Michael Belov will replace David Schumacher in the number 25 machine this weekend at Spa-Francorchamps.

The 18-year-old will join Igor Fraga and Roman Stanek at the Czech based outfit. The news follows Tuesday’s announcement that Schumacher will switch to Carlin Buzz Racing for the remainder of the season.

Belov steps up from Formula Renault Eurocup, where he currently lies seventh in the standings with one podium finish, after four races. The Russian has also been competing in Asian F3, sitting 11th after three races.

The SMP-backed racer arrives with title-winning pedigree, having taken the 2018 Formula Academy Finland title. He also finished second in the 2018 SMP F4 NEZ Championship.

“I am really excited,” said Belov. “It was last minute because my plan was to race in Eurocup this year, but plans change, and I am really happy to drive here.

“It will be an amazing experience to compete in a new championship. It is my first time at this track, and my first time in this car, so there will be a lot to learn and a lot to understand.”
