Charlie Wurz has revealed he learned plenty from his Monte Carlo Sprint Race outing, where the TRIDENT driver finished in sixth place.

The Austrian driver started in P5, but a slow getaway cost him a position to Tim Tramnitz, much to his frustration. Wurz then ran in P6 for the entirety of the 23-lap event, and speaking afterwards, he gave his view on things.

“Well not ideal to be honest,” said Wurz on his Monte Carlo Sprint Race. “We had an issue with the start, so we have to check that out for tomorrow in order to have a better start. I lost positions to Tim and from then on, it's Monaco.

“A bit of a boring race, you are trying to get a gap to go for the fastest lap after a few slow laps. It's cool to go close to the walls, I think I found some tricks that I could have used to go for pole if I had a few more laps. But it was good and looking forward to tomorrow and hopefully to score some points.”

When asked what he learned from the Sprint Race, Wurz replied: “Make sure to learn what to do better at the start, to have a better one than we did today.

“Secondly, I think the setup. We know which direction to go, we know how the tyres will degrade, especially graining, we had some graining on the front row tyres and we will make sure to fix that tomorrow.

“Also make it better to attack a bit better in the race when hopefully people drop off. Also some tricks, a few things that I could have done to find a bit more time in Qualifying. So hopefully if I race here again, I know and I can gain a few tenths more advantage.”

Looking ahead to the Feature Race, Wurz is set to go from sixth, but he is hopeful that the extra four laps on Sunday will make it easier to overtake.

“Hopefully tomorrow with a longer race people will drop of more and start to struggle,” Wurz said. “But without a massive delta speed between you and the car in front, it's very difficult to overtake.

“If a guy drives in the middle of the road, it's difficult to get past them but there are still opportunities. We had some degradation, like on each track, I think the Softs suit this track, it's the right compound, so there was some margin to it.

“You can see in the whole field, the effect, where everyone loses and then tries to go for fastest lap, and it's the same throughout. The tyres were dropping but we will make sure to try and improve that for tomorrow.”

Wurz’s sixth place finish marks a return to the points since his P9 finish in the Sakhir Sprint Race. The Austrian is pleased to be back near the front of the field after a difficult weekend in Imola where he qualified in P28 and was on the back foot for both races.

He hopes his showing around Monaco can be a regular occurrence from now till the end of the season.

“Imola - the team and I know we were going for the top five in Qualifying, no doubt about that, maybe even more, but we got traffic,” said Wurz.

“That's frustrating, it's a lot of points lost, but from now on we're just trying to finish every race in the points and try and make up for what we lost.

“You can't make up for what you lost but just do my best. We still have quite a few rounds to go and we have really good pace. So, that's the goal, keep scoring points and make our way up in the Championship.”
