Alessandro Giusti was disappointed to miss out on achieving a better result in Qualifying, the MP Motorsport driver left to rue a Red Flag that hindered his running in the session.

The Frenchman had been in good form in Monaco, especially in Thursday’s Free Practice, where he had been battling in the top two with teammate Tim Tramnitz for much of the session before ending up in P13.

Giusti was driving well once again on Friday and was fifth fastest in Group B Qualifying, before a Red Flag, caused by Brando Badoer’s Turn 1 collision, stopped the action.

The 18-year-old wound up in sixth, unable to improve on his time with just over three minutes left, and speaking afterwards, Giusti expressed his frustrations with the result.

“It went quite good, but I feel a bit frustrated because of the Red Flag,” reflected Giusti. “I was purple in sector one by a tenth at that moment, sector two had felt much better and then we got the Red Flag. “

“Unfortunately, after the Red Flag we didn't improve, the tyres were not there anymore. Still, I’m happy with the reverse grid pole, but I feel like we could have been much further ahead on the grid.

“We were one of the fastest cars, the package was good, so going forward I just need to put everything together.”

Giusti was not putting all the blame on the Red Flag though. He also cited where he can improve in Qualifying, going back to his Friday showing last weekend in Imola where he finished in P13.

“I feel like my pace is very good in the race and quali,” he said. “But I am missing some experience and tricks in F3, where it's quite tight, especially in quali, but if I fix this we will be back in form.

“For example, if you take Imola, I made a mistake on the last run, which is quite important. It’s when you have less fuel, it’s when the track is at its best and your driving should improve, so it's mainly that.

“Looking at Imola, our first lap was good, pace was amazing, we just need to improve quali.”

Giusti also expressed his admiration for the Monte Carlo street track, calling it “amazing” to be able to drive around the Principality.

The Williams Driver Academy talent will get another shot at driving in Monaco in Saturday’s Sprint Race, where, having qualified P6 in the slower Group B, he is set to start from reverse grid pole.

With there not being many overtaking spots around the track, Giusti’s game plan is clear as he targets a maiden victory in Formula 3.

“I think in Monaco you don't have many chances to overtake. Just need a good start, we have good pace, so hopefully it shouldn't be a problem.”
