The 2024 FIA Formula 3 season is heading into the final few weeks with the Drivers’ Championship looking set to go down to the wire, while PREMA Racing are runaway leaders in the Teams’ Standings.

After seven rounds, we have a clear idea of the campaign so far, especially when looking at some of the trends and statistics.

So, we thought it would be a suitable time to look at some of those key stats as well as some of the records that could be broken heading into the final three rounds.

WINS

Arvid Lindblad, Luke Browning, Nikola Tsolov, Gabriele Minì, Dino Beganovic, Sami Meguetounif, Martinius Stenshorne, Oliver Goethe and Mari Boya are our nine race winners so far this year.

This is three short of the record of 12 winners that we saw in 2022. However, of those nine, only three have won multiple races, with Lindblad, Browning and Tsolov the only drivers with two or more victories this year.

Lindblad, Stenshorne and Meguetounif are the only rookies to have won races this year, the lowest total of victories by newcomers since 2021.

With three rounds left in the year, we would need two more rookie winners to match the totals set in 2022 and 2023.

Lindblad’s four victories put him at the top of the pile, his two most recent successes coming at Silverstone where he achieved a clean sweep by winning both the Sprint and Feature Races.

Lindblad’s current win percentage is 28.75% having won four out of 14 races in his Formula 3 career, and this gives him the best win rate in the Championship’s history.

If the British driver does not win another race this year and does not return to F3 in 2025, his win percentage will drop 20%, and it will still be the best in F3’s history.

LED LAPS

Despite having the most victories this year, Lindblad does not lead the way when it comes to laps led, it is instead Browning the tops the leaderboard in that category.

The British driver has led 58 laps so far this year, six more than second-placed Tsolov, while Lindblad is third with 43.

15 drivers have led at least one lap so far this year, which is one fewer than the record of 16, a total achieved in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Minì is currently fourth for laps led this year with 27 but having also completed 51 tours in the lead last season, it means his 78 laps led in Formula 3 put him third all-time.

The PREMA Racing driver would need to lead three laps across the next six races to break Dennis Hauger and Caio Collet’s record of 80 led laps in Formula 3.

POLE POSITION

Beganovic, Fornaroli, Santiago Ramos, Minì, Christian Mansell and Browning are the only six drivers to have qualified on pole so far this year.

The record for the most drivers to take pole in a season stands at seven and this has been achieved three times, in 2019, 2022 and 2023.

With three rounds left, this record could be matched or beaten.

Having qualified fastest in Spielberg and Silverstone, Browning is the only driver to have achieved pole more than once this season.

Logan Sargeant and Dennis Hauger have the most poles in a season with three, and Browning could also match and potentially beat this record in the remaining rounds.

CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

So far this season, the Championship lead has changed hands on seven occasions, with Lindblad, Browning, Fornaroli, Minì all having led the Standings at one stage.

This is already the most changes at the top of the Drivers’ Championship, with the closest being in 2022, when the lead swapped six times.

From that point of view the 2024 title fight has been the most competitive, as we have had a new Drivers’ Championship leader at the end of the last five rounds.

PODIUMS

17 different drivers have achieved a podium finish through the first seven rounds of the year, one less than the record of 18 achieved in 2021 and 2023.

Lindblad leads the way with five ahead of Fornaroli, Mansell and Minì with four.

CONSECUTIVE POINTS FINISHES

Oliver Goethe has put himself firmly in the discussion for the Drivers’ Championship thanks to his consistency.

He started the year by finishing in the points in the first 13 races, putting him tied in second with his former teammate Gabriel Bortoleto for the most consecutive points finishes of all time.

The Campos Racing driver’s streak ended during the Silverstone Sprint Race when he crashed out leaving him two short of David Beckmann’s record of 15 consecutive points finishes.
