Feature
Tuukka Taponen is targeting a maiden Feature Race win in Formula 3 when the paddock returns in Monza but what would his celebration be? A dance maybe or a song?
We put that and a few other questions to the ART Grand Prix driver to find out more about the Finn.
Here’s how he got on…
BE A FAMOUS SINGER OR ACTOR?
“Umm… maybe – it’s a difficult one. If I had to pick one, I’d go with… doesn’t matter I don’t want to do either! Honestly, I don’t watch too many movies, so I feel like it’s a bit boring just to sit and watch a film. I have something else to do normally anyway.”
WIN YOUR HOME RACE ONCE OR THE MONACO GRAND PRIX MULTIPLE TIMES?
“I would win my home race once. There’s no track for a race in Finland at the moment, but they were trying to build a track for MotoGP, but it’s taking a bit of time. Hopefully it will happen though soon because it would be great to win in front of the Finnish fans. They’re waiting for another Finnish F1 driver, and I think I’m the closest at the moment.”
WIN THE INDY 500 OR 24 HOURS OF LE MANS
“24 Hours of Le Mans. It’s a longer race so you need to be at the top of your game for longer. You can’t make a mistake because otherwise your race is gone. Maybe one day.”
KARAOKE OR DANCE OFF?
“Maybe dancing. Singing is difficult.”
FRONT ROW AT FASHION WEEK OR AT THE OSCARS?
“Fashion week. I’d prefer it over movies.”
WIN THE TITLE BUT NOT WIN A RACE OR WIN MULTIPLE RACES BUT MISS OUT ON THE TITLE?
“To win the title. It’s always the most important. If winning more races and having a bit technical issue and losing the Championship that way, maybe then winning multiple races is better.”
TOO HOT OR TOO COLD?
“Too cold. I’m used to it in Finland, can get a bit cold in the winter.”
ASTRONAUT OR ROCKSTAR?
“Doesn’t matter, neither!”
DISCOVER A NEW PLANET OR A NEW ISLAND?
“A brand-new island. Islands are nice and it’s easier to go there.”

EAT WITH A SPOON OR FORK FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE?
“Spoon. Soup and pasta you can eat with a spoon, so spoon.”
READ PEOPLE’S MINDS OR KNOW EVERY LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD?
“Be able to read people’s minds. You could gain an advantage like that on the track. If you can read the other driver’s minds, you’d know what they’re about to do.”
WET TYRES ON A DRY TRACK OR DRY TYRES ON A WET TRACK?
“Wet tyres on a dry track. Dry tyres on a wet track is super stressful. It’s so slippery and you can’t make a single mistake otherwise you’ll end up out of the race. Wet tyres on a dry track is a little bit easier, maybe less fun, but still I prefer that.”
TRAIN FOR A 100-METRE SPRINT OR A MARATHON?
“Easiest would be the 100 metres. But if you enjoy it and want to target something big, train for a marathon. I prefer running for training so maybe marathon.”
UNDERDRESSED OR OVERDRESSED?
“Overdressed. It’s better to be a bit overdressed than underdressed. Depends on who you’re with but normally overdressed is better.”
