Cian Shields is coming to the end of his debut campaign in Formula 3, so we recently sat down with the Hitech Pulse-Eight driver to ask him about his sporting hero.
The Glaswegian opened up about his adoration for one of the greatest athletes of all time, what it is about them that immediately caught his eye and plenty more.
So, here is Shields talking about his sporting hero… Michael Jordan.
Goethe: Championship hopes slim but aiming to end improved 2024 on a high in Monza
“My sporting hero is Michael Jordan. I saw a video a while ago where he was talking about his training regime, how much he trains and I thought immediately that it was quite cool how dedicated he was and how he explained how he would get up early to work.
“I can't remember where exactly I saw it but I thought the video was really cool and I loved how he was so to what he was doing, his approach to what he did and then the results that followed.
“The video was from a podcast, and he was on the podcast somewhere talking about it. It still always pops up on my feed as does his career highlights, so each time it's on I watch it.
“I've also watched most of his documentary but honestly, I didn't finish it. I always watch movies when I travel and then always end up forgetting them and not finishing them. But again, he is probably one of, if not the best at his sport ever.
No place like home: Laurens van Hoepen’s dream race weekend
“Obviously, it doesn't really relate to my sport but it's just about having the aim to be the best ever at the sport that you do and I think he showed that. To be one of the best, you have to in a way try to be like him, no matter what sport you do.
“Since that podcast, I've definitely brought some of the things he was talking about into the way I go about my work. Most of the stuff he says gives you a bit more of an urge to do more work and to do all the extra stuff that no one else is doing to give yourself an advantage.
“I'm not sure I'd ever meet him, so I’m not sure what I'd say if I did. I really couldn't tell you what I'd say. I can take him out and probably ask him later for a basketball and a photo, but I'm not sure what I'd say to him.
Sophia Floersch: My Greatest Influences
“If anyone didn't know who Michael Jordan was, I'd probably ask them where they would have been living?
“But if I had to tell them who he was, I would explain his work ethic, what he stood for and how his work got him to where it did which is the greatest basketballer of all time.”
