Callum Voisin was on the move during the Melbourne Sprint Race, charging through the field to finish ninth on Saturday, a pleasing result for the Rodin Motorsport driver.

After a difficult Friday at Albert Park, where he qualified in P18, Voisin navigated a tricky start, before picking off his rivals one by one, on his way to scoring his first points of the season.

It was a pleasing result for Voisin given the nature of the race, with several incidents bringing out two Safety Cars and an additional Virtual Safety Car.

“In general, it was a pretty good race,” said Voisin. “Obviously, it's not where we should be starting, yesterday's quali was completely hectic and we got compromised with the Red Flag.

“In general, it was a good comeback, the car felt quite good. I am relatively happy, and it's nice to start the year with some points, and hope for even better tomorrow.”

With 30 drivers, 19 of whom are rookies, on a track that plenty have not visited before, Voisin says he expected the race to be quite hectic.

However, he says once they navigated the opening two laps, it was easy for him and others to build up a bit of a rhythm, although with many new faces on track, there was a feeling out process.

“It was quite tricky,” said Voisin on battling through the field. “A lot of new drivers, you don't really know their traits and characteristics. So, you've got to treat people with respect, but at the same time you've got to get on with it. In general, it felt all good.”

Voisin was not the only Rodin car to score points though, as his rookie teammate Roman Bilinski achieved a podium on debut, finishing third.

The Briton believes he and the team have started the year in positive fashion, and it bodes well not just for Sunday’s race, but also for the rounds to come.

“Obviously there are some things to work on, but I am sure that's the same with every car and team on the grid,” continued Voisin. “It's great to see Rom on the podium, congrats to him.

“To be honest it just gives me confidence that this weekend is just a bit of a one off. I am fully confident we will be back better than ever come Bahrain, and the rest of the season. Starting P18, still finishing in the points in the first race, it's not too bad.

“There's no reason why we can't do the same thing, if not better tomorrow. I think we will be strong. I am not sure if we will have the same amount of chaos. But in general, there will be a lot of people trying to move forward.

“Obviously, there are more points tomorrow, so stakes are higher. So, there will probably be more risky moves going on, but I am looking forward to it.”
