Sami Meguetounif joined Trident for his maiden FIA Formula 3 campaign in 2024 and it’s time we got to know him a little bit more.
From his hometown to racing style, motorsport heroes and memories of how he got started, Meguetounif details all you need to know about him.
WHAT IS YOUR FIRST RACING MEMORY?
“My first racing memory would be in the south of France, not where I first started racing but where I started out in go-karts, near to Marseilles, where I live actually. It was a regional race and the first taste of racing pressure. I won’t ever forget it. I was really young, around seven I think.”
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RACING STYLE?
“Difficult one. I would say sometimes a bit impulsive, but I need to find a good amount of it because I think you need to be sometimes in order to make the right decisions, but sometimes it can be too much.”
WHO IS YOUR RACING HERO
“My racing hero was Jules Bianchi. I got the chance to know him, myself personally but also with some close members of my entourage. Then I would say Lewis Hamilton. From when I was a kid to now, I’d say Lewis. I remember watching both of them growing up, watching Lewis win all of the races but even still, I enjoy watching his races even if he’s not in the best car now.”
WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST RACING ACHIEVEMENT SO FAR?
“I would say last season after the loss of Dilano, my teammate, when we went back to racing after missing one round of the Championship, we finished on the podium straight away. It was the biggest accomplishment for me, the way we did it and the way I managed my mindset, it was a nice way to come back to it.”
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BEING A RACING DRIVER?
“The main thing for me is driving and racing these cars. Of course, there’s a lot of other things that come with being a racing driver but driving around the best tracks in the world in fast cars, that’s cool.”
TESTING NOTEBOOK: How did each team fare after three days of running in Barcelona?
HOW DO YOU RELAX OUTSIDE OF RACING?
“I like to go fishing. I have a common passion with my team manager, he also loves to go fishing. I live in Marseilles so really close to the sea and it’s the perfect thing to focus on and relax at the same time.”
DO YOU HAVE A SECRET TALENT?
“It’s crazy what I’m going to say but I think my parents have only given me talent for racing. I’m not great at fishing, sometimes I come back with nothing even if I love it. I don’t think I have one.”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TRACK ON THE F3 CALENDAR?
“I’m looking forward to Monaco. I live close to there so it will be very special. I have a lot of family coming to that one to see me, but in terms of a pure feel while driving, I would say Spa.”
